Lizzie is fascinated by words right now, and she has started using a lot of big words lately; sometimes correctly, sometimes not. I love her adorable mispronunciations, and wanted to write them down so I wouldn't forget. When Jake had to work late last week, she was asking me where Daddy was. Then she said, "Mommy, I really miss him. I miss him depperly!" (desperately) The other morning she pulled out one of my maternity shirts and announced that it was a pretty dress. I told her that it was a shirt, and pulled it on to show her. She said, "But, Mommy, it's really simimar. It's really simimar to a dress." And last night Jake was reading 'Jolly Old Santa Claus' to her for the 800,000th time before bed. She has had plenty of chances to notice everything in every picture of that book, and when she recently wondered about why some of the elves on the ornament-making page had bags of sand, I explained how glass is made to her. So she had to stop and explain the process to Jake. "See Daddy? The elves take the sand, and put it in the hot, hot forn-ess and then it makes gas!"
Sadie has also been using a lot of words lately. We are waiting to see if she will be an early talker. Of course, at one point we thought Lizzie might talk early, because it seemed like she was using a lot of words for an 11-month-old--and then she nearly stopped gaining new words for almost a year. (I think she was really focused on developing physical skills at that time.) So we'll just wait and see what happens with Sadie. She does have a rather larger vocabulary now than Lizzie had at 22 months.
I'm also excited that she's recently gotten the hang of using a fork or spoon. It makes mealtime cleaner and easier (though, notice that is cleaner, not clean). She can't hold it the right way yet, but she can feed herself.
